The soundtrack has been re-issued multiple times, including a 1996 version and a digitally remastered version in 2010. referencing 2001 - A Space Odyssey (Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack), LP, Gat, MMF 1010 Dynamics on this release aren't really good. Looks like there is some heavy compressing going on. /5.

A brilliant soundtrack CD from the Film 2001 A Space Odyssey. The last track includes a collection of clips of the HAL 9000 computer, actual audio clips from the film itsef. Only trouble is, I've got the various music pieces collected on disc and spread over five or six different CD's, which makes listening to the tracks at home or in the car a bit of technical tedium. The full soundtrack then, all the versions, all the cues and some dialog for good measure
2001: A Space Odyssey - Original Soundtrack. Stanley Kubrick always had a reputation for individuality in his film-making. He invariably created films which stretched the boundaries of established practice in terms of concept, story, camera work and direction. With 2001: A Space Odyssey he also confounded expectations in the soundtrack department. The rest as they say is history. His choices of music ranged from the conventional to the positively weird, taking some courageous risks with his creation, but those choices complemented the storyline perfectly and created a soundtrack legend along the way. The title track is the opening music from "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss.
