The Academy of St Martin in the Fields (ASMF) is an English chamber orchestra, based in London. John Churchill, then Master of Music at the London church of St, and Neville Marriner (later Sir Neville) founded the orchestra as "The Academy of St. ", a small, conductorless string group. The ASMF gave its first concert on 13 November 1959, in the church after which it was named. In 1988, the orchestra dropped the hyphens from its full name.

Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he did not introduce new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, an unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organisation, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms and textures from abroad, particularly from Italy and France.

When Ludwig van Beethoven was 12 years old his father had almost ruined the family because of his severe alcoholism. Ludwig had to work to support the family, first as an assistant to his teacher, court organist Christian Gottlob Neefe, then as an assistant organist earning a salary of 150 guilders. With his name standing in the same line as those of Bach, Mozart or Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven is unquestionably one of the most outstanding and radical composers on the music arena throughout history.
