Chris is the second studio album by French singer Christine and the Queens, released on 21 September 2018 in both English and French versions through Because Music. It was preceded by the release of two singles, each of which were released in both English and French versions: "Girlfriend", "Damn, dis-moi", featuring Dâm-Funk, and "Doesn't Matter", "Doesn't Matter (Voleur de soleil)".

The album is a compelling portrait of a woman in flux. She cut off her hair and – having declared I’m a man now on her debut album – leaned into a muscular femininity. Since releasing her 2014 debut, she has embraced her power and sexuality, enough to question whether the two are interchangeable – or even incompatible  . In an interview with Beats One, Christine states why she decided to call the album Chris : I think I’ll always be slightly confused – which is what’s fun! But it’s good now because people are even more confused now between my civil state, my first stage name and this altered stroked-out name. I guess I like to be called Chris more and more because it’s kind of evolving. I’m back and I’m evolving. It’s about making the character evolve in a way that feels to me that it fits more well.

Chris follows Christine and the Queens’ acclaimed 2014 debut album Chaleur Humaine, a project that explored her teenage years. This new LP focuses more on her existence as a grownass woman, as she describes. It is entirely self-written, self-produced and self-arranged. Christine and the Queens’ new album Chris is remarkable for a few reasons, but this is the one that’s sticking with me: It’s impossible to deny the complexity of the person at its center. She uses masculinity like a sledgehammer to enrich her womanhood; she’s a crude, libidinous woman, but her heart is still tender; she has the courage and creativity to make a life for herself outside of the status quo, but she still feels the pain that comes with choosing a path other people don’t understand.
