Casanova is the fourth studio album by The Divine Comedy. It was the band's commercial breakthrough. It was released on Setanta and certified Gold in the UK in July 1997. This was helped by the release of the album's first single "Something for the Weekend" which reached number 13 on the charts. Two other singles released from the album, "Becoming More Like Alfie" and "The Frog Princess", charted at 27 and 15 respectively.

Turning back to a slightly more straightforward rock/pop format turned out to be advantageous for Neil Hannon; Casanova turned into a smash hit in the . while the singles "Something for the Weekend" (at once soaring, cheeky, leering, and truly weird, with lyrics detailing a guy led astray by his lover and attacked by her secret thug companions) and "Becoming More.

Casanova is the fourth studio album by The Divine Comedy. Two of the album's songs were originally composed by Hannon as potential theme tunes for the 1995 sitcom Father Ted. Hannon's first attempt was rejected, and he reworked it to become "A Woman of the World". His second attempt was accepted and used as the theme for the series; however, Hannon later reworked it, played on harpsichord (rather than the series' guitar), to become "Songs of Love".

Released in 1996, The Divine Comedy's third album Casanova represented a significant commercial breakthrough for the band. They had been slowly gaining traction in the early nineties, with their first two LPs Liberation and Promenade garnering a heap of critical acclaim. With britpop still in full swing, the label smelled blood in the water and put a lot of muscle and financial backing behind the release. The pressure was on and a hit was expected. Thankfully, the timing was right and a hit was indeed delivered as planned.

Casanova is The Divine Comedy's fourth album. Casanova is an amazing recording that still packs a dramatic punch after i've practically worn out my copy from repeated listens. one thing that i love about this band is that they are unashamed about being hopelessly romantics. in an age where loud guitars and grunge ruled the world, real feelings were about the last thing that people were singing about. it. was all replaced with disenchanted youth screaming and cold electronica that had a digital blip instead of a pulse
