Many friends of the artist took actively part at this event, therefore it is referred to as an album of "David Bowie & Friends": Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters, Lou Reed, Robert Smith (The Cure), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Sonic Youth. For many years this Live album has circulated as a bootleg, now it has been officially released in April 2011.

The Hearts Filthy Lesson" (no apostrophe in "Hearts" ) is a song by David Bowie, from his 1995 album Outside, and issued as a single ahead of the album. Lyrically, the single connects with the rest of the album, with Bowie offering a lament to "tyrannical futurist" Ramona A. Stone, a theme continued in subsequent songs. The song is also meant to confront Bowie's own perceptions about the ritual creation and degradation of art.

Adrian Belew brings color to a heavy, rockin' live version of Beauty & The Beast from the Heroes album. This performance by the CdB band to a packed house in Buenos Aires is led by Paul Dempsey on vocals.

Avoid this release completely. I made the fatal mistake of buying it based on the supposed 5.1 version which I was mug enough to believe might be genuine - after all, this was originally a fan club special & a really good 5.1 mix would not have surprised me. Hell, even a halfway decent upmix would be acceptable given how good this show should sound. Please note carefully the words "should sound" there - I have CD versions of this show that are as good as anything ever released officially and unless you knew what you had you would never know it is a bootleg. This edition is such a turkey it should only come out at Christmas or Thanksgiving. The audio is mono - I kid you not, it is straight mono and the supposed 5.1 is a very bad upmix that sounds to me like it was run through a DPLII decoder and the output recorded back from the mono streams. Terrible, and there is frankly no excuse for this at all given that there are pristine stereo versions available ("Save The Children" comes immediately to mind) and the video quality is the worst version I have seen as well with the one on "Birthday Bash" being at least 1 or 2 generations closer to the master than this appalling effort.Avoid.
