Phil Harris was asked to replace Jimmie Grier at the Cocoanut Grove in the autumn of 1932, coinciding with the Olympic games in progress in Los Angeles. Harris's band is slightly sweeter than Grier's, with a larger string section and at times the influence of Guy Lombardo (heavy vibrato in the saxes and a tinkling piano in the background) is discernible, but still firmly within the bounds of good taste. Although twenty selections may be on the short side by today's standard, the disc's total running time exceeds 65 minutes.

Wonga Philip Harris (Linton, January 1904 - Rancho Mirage, August 1995) was an American drummer, singer and big bandleader from the swingera. He was also actor: a short film in which he played himself, got an Oscar in 1934. Harris was the son of two circus artists and grew up in Nashville. He played drums in the circus band of his father. In the 1920s he was a drummer in the bands of Francis Craig and Henry Halstead

The film is a series of comical musical numbers and skits following Phil Harris around, starting with him performing at the Cocoanut Grove nightclub, which is listened to by Dorothy on the radio whose homebrewing husband Walter hates Harris. The action then moves to the country club where Walter unknowingly encounters Harris while being aggravated by his music. Walter then pretends to be Phil to meet a woman while Harris "entertains" her friend, Dorothy. Phil Harris as Himself. Walter Catlett as Himself. Helen Collins as Dorothy. The Music Box (1932). So This Is Harris! (1933).

The Cop On The Beat, The Man In The Moon, And Me, 04:03. 12th Street Rag, 02:35. I& Got Nothing To Do But Love, 03:13.
