The Third Hand Instrumentals ‎(CD, Album). With THE THIRD HAND, RJD2's major-label debut, he moves away from the straight-forward instrumental hip-hop of his earlier albums for something more folk-rock oriented. And if that sounds odd, well, it does take a little time to get used to, right from the lyrics and rolling pianos of "You Never Had It So Good.

The album features vocal contributions from Blueprint, Jakki da Motamouth, and Copywrite, but those three tracks aside the album is completely instrumental. From the funky opener The Horror to the moody blues of Smoke & Mirrors to the soul of Good Times Roll P., – this album shows great variation and is perfectly consistent at the same time. Joe Beats – Diverse Recourse (2007). Sixtoo – Jackals and Vipers in Envy of Man (2007). RJD2 – The Third Hand Instrumentals (2007). DJ Babu – The Beat Tape Vol. 1 (2007). Damu the Fudgemunk – Spare Time (2008).

It's no wonder he felt he had to move from Definitive Jux, the home of Aesop Rock and Murs, to XL, the home of Thom Yorke and Lemon Jelly, to have any hope of being taken seriously. And while there's no hint of hip-hop anywhere here, The Third Hand is a surprisingly natural mix of his beat-heavy productions and kaleidoscopic tastes with reflective songwriting and plaintive vocals
