Gran presentación del director norteamericano Leonard Bernstein junto a la Orquesta Filarmónica de Viena, interpretando una excitante versión de la Sinfonía No. 1 "Titán" de Gustav Mahler. Great presentation of american conductor Leonard Bernstein with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, playing an amazing version of Mahler's 1st Symphony "The Titan". C) ALL their respective owners.

Symphony No. 1 in D major by Gustav Mahler was mainly composed between late 1887 and March 1888, though it incorporates music Mahler had composed for previous works. It was composed while Mahler was second conductor at the Leipzig Opera, Germany. Although in his letters Mahler almost always referred to the work as a symphony, the first two performances described it as a symphonic poem or tone poem. The work was premièred at the Vigadó Concert Hall, Budapest, in 1889, but was not well received.

Mahler: Symphony No. 1 "Titan". CD - Royal Philharmonic Masterworks, RPO. Even though this recording of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in D major is part of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's budget line, don't sell it short because it is helmed by Yuri Simonov, and his recordings with this orchestra are among the very best it releases. This is a bright, clear, and vivid performance where virtually every detail is audible, and the orchestra plays with a great deal of musicality and expressive flexibility, no doubt because Simonov draws out the musicians and inspires them to play with a high degree of individuality and personality.

I also find the sound to be quite good and the intonation of the New York Philharmonic is world class. Mahler's 1st has many colors and offers moments of breathtaking beauty and mystery. From it's almost Pastoral opening, through the effervescent Scherzo and into the darker recesses of the last movements, it is a late 19th century jewel.
