And the group’s early use of then-emerging consumer tape recording technology allowed them to create works comparable to the pioneering musique concrète of 1950s Paris. Volume seven of Omega Point’s OBSCURE TAPE MUSIC OF JAPAN focuses on the ‘60s and ‘70s soundtrack work Joji Yuasa did for avant-garde filmmaker Toshio Matsumoto. Transforming swathes of prepared piano, birdsong, and steel springs into strange, otherworldly noises, the album offers an intrepid sonic explorer at the cusp of new frontier of sound.
Joji Yuasa (born August 12, 1929) is a Japanese composer. In the 1950s he co-founded Jikken Kobo (Experimental Workshop), an organization dedicated to the exploration of interdisciplinary art cooperations. Variations: Viewing All Joji Yuasa. George Yuasa, Jogi Yuasa, Jôji Yuasa, Yuasa, 湯浅譲二.
Joji Yuasa (b. 1929) is one of most important composers in Japan after World War II. "Aoi-no-Ue" was composed for experimental theater at Sogetsu Art Center. The sound of this work is made from the chants of Japanese traditional "Noh" theater. This package also includes his final electronic music piece "My Blue Sky N.," made at NHK electronic music studio. This studio was the '60s and '70s mecca of Japanese electronic music.

Yuasa made the acquaintance of Toru Takemitsu (composer), Kuniharu Akiyama (musicologist) and others while a pre-medical student at Keio University in Tokyo. He joined them in forming the "Jikken-kobo" (Experimental Workshop) in 1952, and turned to devote himself to music.
Yuasa is among the contemporary composers who have given serious thought to the structuring of time in music. Yuasa's approach is unique in that it draws heavily on one of the Japanese traditional art forms, Noh, which Yuasa has studied since his childhood. Yuasa's music is influenced by Noh both technically (in its sounds and methods) and metaphorically (in its aesthetic and spiritual qualities). However, even in technical ways, his music never becomes a superficial imitation or reproduction of Noh music. The four works discussed in this paper are Cosmos Haptic (1957), Projection Topologic (1959), On the Keyboard (1972), and Cosmos Haptic II (1986).
