So Far is the fourth album by Crosby, Stills & Nash, their third as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the first compilation album released by the group. Shipping as a gold record and peaking at on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, it was the band's third chart-topping album in a row. It has been certified six times platinum by the RIAA, and is the second best-selling album by any configuration of the quartet in tandem after their 1970 studio album, Déjà Vu.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Unbeknown to most fans, So Far was a stopgap release, undertaken by Atlantic Records in the absence of a new Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young album to accompany the reunited quartet's summer 1974 tour. At the time, the members thought it was ridiculous to release a f compilation distilled down from two in-print LPs plus the single sides "Ohio" and "Find the Cost of Freedom"; but propelled by the publicity surrounding the group's massive stadium tour (the first exclusive stadium tour ever done in rock), So Far topped the charts.

I must admit that even though I have an extensive music collection, I wasn't really a rock fan during the 70's hippie years. Most of it just passed me by as psychedelic noise. This "So Far" album had great sound and great performances of mostly great songs. I hope their other albums are just as enjoyable. Also, most CD albums contain 60+ minutes of music, and the "So Far" vinyl version of only 42 minutes, 36 seconds of music, is not enough music on a CD version. 2 people found this helpful.

So Far' was released as a stopgap before Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's huge 1974 tour, and ended up going multi-platinum anyway. Released in August 1974, So Far represented nothing more than a label stopgap measure as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young reconvened for a tour without the benefit of a new project to promote
