Dixie Dregs biography Formed in Augusta, Georgia, USA in 1970 (until 1972 as "Dixie Grit" and from 1981 on as "The Dregs") - As of 2017 keeps reuniting briefly for short tours. Formed and headed by composer/guitarist extraordinaire Steve Morse (KANSAS, DEEP PURPLE) in 1975, the DIXIE DREGS are a bunch of extremely talented musicians whose intricate style has a definite MAHAVISHNU flavour plus an off-beat, weird sense of humour. It was also the last album of Dixie Dregs on Capricorn Records and the first to by the band to receive a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, eventually released in April 1979.

Eclectic band led by guitar virtuoso Steve Morse, added a new wrinkle to jazz-rock fusion in the mid-1970s.

From the first incarnation of the Dixie Dregs and through the years since, some incredibly great musicians have been part of the band’s legacy. Those who performed on recordings other than Free Fall include Jerry Goodman, Dave Larue, and Mark O’Connor. Sadly, Mark Parrish and T Lavitz are no longer with us. But Mark’s playing on What If and Night of the Living Dregs, and T’s unmistakable sound on every Dregs album since, certainly keep their memories alive and fresh
