Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel are an English glam rock band from the early 1970s. Their music covers a range of styles from pop to progressive rock. Over the years they have had five albums in the UK Albums Chart and twelve singles in the UK Singles Chart. Steve Harley grew up in London's New Cross area and attended Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham Boys' School.

The Last Goodbye" is a song by British rock band Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, released as the only single from their 2005 album The Quality of Mercy. Written by Harley and Cockney Rebel ex-guitarist Jim Cregan, the single was released in early 2006. Chosen as the only single from the album, "The Last Goodbye" was released in February 2006. It was Harley's first single since 2001's "A Friend for Life".

Written by Harley and Cockney Rebel's ex-guitarist Jim Cregan, the song displays an excellent, rich vocal from Harley, as well as some interesting, memorable lyrics. The guitars are wonderfully rhythmic, the backing organ adds plenty of warmth, and the drums are particularly thunderous. Robbie Gladwell lays down an excellent guitar solo as well.

Indeed, many feel that Harley and the band might have been more successful if they had begun their careers earlier, and had not been eclipsed by the glam rock bandwagon.
