Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel are an English glam rock band from the early 1970s. Their music covers a range of styles from pop to progressive rock. Over the years they have had five albums in the UK Albums Chart and twelve singles in the UK Singles Chart. Steve Harley grew up in London's New Cross area and attended Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham Boys' School

The anthology features material from Cockney Rebel, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel and Harley's solo career. It covers all of Harley's albums, spanning over 33 years, from 1973's The Human Menagerie to 2005's The Quality of Mercy. The anthology was released by EMI Music UK. It was released on CD in the UK only The anthology was compiled by project manager Nigel Reeve and designed by Chris Peyton. The album's sleeve notes were written by Geoff Barton of Classic Rock magazine.

Steve Harley (born Stephen Malcolm Ronald Nice, 27 February 1951,Deptford, London, England) is an English singer and songwriter, best known for his work with the 1970s rock group Cockney Rebel, with whom he still occasionally tours (albeit with many personnel changes through the years).

Harley's later albums from "Hobo With a Grin" generally have a "thinner" sound appearing uneven compared to his EMI records, but each album contribute a least one good song, making the compilation a satisfying listen. From "Hobo With a Grin" "Riding the Waves for Virginia Wolf" ranks among Harley's very best songs. The Candidate" has "One More Time". Star For a Week" from "Yes You Can" sounds like an outtake from "Timeless Flight" - a great song

His last studio album with Cockney Rebel, 1977’s Love’s A Prima Donna sees him incorporate elements of doo wop, reggae, prog and soul into an at times impenetrable choral rock onslaught where a breezy cover of The Beatles Here Comes The Sun provides welcome respite. To gain a full appreciation of Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel in the early days, this covers it all. A complete anthology of the music on 3 excellent CDs. This is a must for any Cockney Rebel fans. The only shame is that it is out of circulation at the moment, so has become a collector's item. However, it is a brilliant album, time for a re-release I think. One person found this helpful.
