Neil Merryweather's 'Word of Mouth' certainly has its moments, but much of the disc, unfortunately, is rather generic sounding. Few of the tunes stick in your head and/or demand a fresh replay. So the potters are working with substandard clay, but we are fortunate to be in the presence of such acclaimed potters. I discovered this album by first of all being a Traffic fan and noticing in a bio of Dave Masons (original Traffic guitarist) that he had played on an album with Charlie Musselwhite and Steve miller. After looking around a bit here in Adelaide, I found a 2nd hand LP copy of Neil Merryweather's "Space Rangers". Even though Dave Mason wasnt on it I took a punt. I thoroughly enjoy Space Rangers and this then led me to investigate this chap called Merryweather. Today I received a CD copy of Merryweather - Word of Mouth

Word of Mouth is the twentieth studio album by the English rock group, The Kinks. Do It Again" was released as a single from the album in 1985. The track "Living on a Thin Line" by Dave Davies was played three times in the 2001 episode "University" of the American TV show The Sopranos. According to producer Terence Winter on the DVD extras, it is the series' most asked about song. The song was also played in the final episode of the HBO series Vice Principals.

Merryweather's second album, Word of Mouth (released in September 1969), was a double-album of extemporaneous songs recorded in Los Angeles featuring the band jamming with numerous guests, such as Steve Miller, Barry Goldberg, Charlie Musselwhite, ex-Traffic guitarist Dave Mason, Howard Roberts and Bobby Notkoff. Prior to the break, Merryweather turned down an offer from Stephen Stills to join Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young as bass player. Neil and Stephen had jammed at Stills' house in Topanga Canyon in the past and spent a day hanging out together. Merryweather flew back to Toronto to recruit replacements, then returned with them to record the album Neil Merryweather, John Richardson and Boers for the blues label Kent in early 1970.
