A Taste of DNA is an EP by the no wave band DNA, released in 1981 through American Clavé. It was to be the band's last album to be released before they disbanded the following year. In 10 jarring minutes, A Taste of DNA disembowels melody and tone, and presses together a mess of detached parts, like so much shit and play-doh. They hardly left the city, or the East Village for that matter, playing their first show at Max’ Kansas City, and their last just 3 years later at CBGB’s. But like Mars, the Contortions and so many of their no-wave peers, the scope of their influence fanned out far beyond Lower Manhattan. Swans, Boredoms, Spacemen 3, Royal Trux, Butthole Surfers, Sonic Youth and any number of present-day noise icons all trace back to that vile dissonance.

DNA: A Taste of DNA Five "songs" lasting nine minutes in which Arto Lindsay, who refuses to corrupt his talent by learning chords, beats his guitar about the neck and body while yelping and ululating and just plain screaming the incomprehensible urban blues. Lester Bangs calls it horrible noise, I call it skronk and say it's funny as hell and just as gut-wrenching-chaos neither celebrated nor succumbed to, just shaped into, well, postchaos. Ikue Mori's postceremonial drums and Tim Wright's post-Ubu bass complete the picture.
