The second instalment of the collaboration between Autechre and The Hafler Trio. All rights reserved, that's not your date, nope. All rights reserved, tip not included, leave it under the plate please. Autechre on Die Stadt? And a good record at that in 2005? Beautifully packaged. A collectors item indeed. autechre's three collaborations with the hafler trio are like the weird cousins to the rest of their discography that nobody really talks about. they're basically the only autechre-related things i have yet to check out at this point, which doesn't surprise me. i was probably turned off by the tags of 'drone' and 'noise', as well as. the somewhat intimidating lengths of the second and third ones. this one isn't too bad of a first impression, though it does feel a little lacking.

³o & h³æ is a collaborative project between Autechre & The Hafler Trio. This minimax pressing consists of excerpts of the full length album consisting of two regular compact discs. This was released by Phonometrography and you can consider this "sampler discs". Autechre & The Hafler Trio - æ³o & h³æ (UK CD3 x 2) (2003) {Phonometrography}. 1. æ³o (16:14) 2. h³æ (15:22).

Autechre, on the other hand, seem to have been moving in the opposite direction. 2003's Draft . 0 might have been slightly more straightforward than 2001's extraordinary Confield, but could hardly have been further from ambient if it tried. Even the moments that might conceivably have been called "drone" (parts of "Surripere", for example) seemed skittish and nervous. Certainly a far cry from anything on the Autechre/Hafler Trio split aptly titled, aexB3o & hxB3ae, a daunting exercise in ominous hum, icy space and digital resonance. It reminds me of sound-sculptor Richard Chartier's album on American experimental electronic label Crouton from last year- Hafler Trio have also recorded for Crouton, and fans of modern dark ambient and electronic will have much to investigate on their roster. aexB3o" moves through long periods of relative calm (if you consider residual static hum calm).

1995 saw the release of Tri Repetae, their third album, as well as the EPs Anvil Vapre and Garbage, featuring a monochrome cover designed by The Designers Republic, with whom Autechre have long held a close association. Tri Repetae and its associated EPs were combined into a two disc set entitled Tri Repetae++, which was released in the United States. Autechre released two collaborative albums with Andrew M. McKenzie's Hafler Trio collective during the following three years (see collaborations). The reactions by both professional critics and fans to the release of Confield were mixed, though generally positive. According to Sean Booth, "most of Confield came out of experiments with Max that weren't really applicable in a club environment. In contrast, 2003's Draft . 0 was seen by some as an easier record to grasp.

Talk about Autechre & The Hafler Trio - æ³o & h³æ

Mr Freeman
what the fuck is a minimax. . . . .
Qusserel
A short lived sub-format that was basically 3 inch CD's, or CD3's that lasted in Europe. They were trying to make it popular again as it has been in Japan but it didn't work.
Vareyma
Its basically a CD but the outer 2 inches are printed transparent, can add to the design in a really fancy way.
The Sphinx of Driz
same size as a stanard cd but only a minidisc size playing area.
Garr
I was wondering the same thing too. Three more words.
Beazezius
If you're familar with the other Autechre/Hafler Trio release, then you'll know what to expect here. More minimal ambient goodness. However, unlike part 2, this album contains 2 long 1-piece songs. Unlike the other release from them, which was broken up into many little songs. Both CDs clock in at about 15 minutes and the packaging is really fancy. These sounds are unlike anything Autechre has done before... picture an even more minimal version of Amber and that gives you an idea what to expect here. I hope they make a 3rd installment to this series.
Vozuru
this release is more minimalist and has less layers than any Haflter Trio release or Autechre release. Only recommended for fans of extremely minimalist dark ambient with very little progression.
Silver Globol
Extraordinary release, mainly because its not just another collaboration, but a well thought-out work of two innovative bands. One is more famous (Autechre), another one is less famous (Hafler Trio - basically Andrew McKenzie himself). What they do on this record is quite different from their standards - there are no beats anywhere on this record, a lot of weird, machine-like sounds and generally this is closer to Hafler Trio territory than Autechre and yet doesn't sound like Hafler Trio. This might be a great surprise for fans of both groups.
