Autechre (/ɔːˈtɛkər/) are an English electronic music duo consisting of Rob Brown and Sean Booth, both from Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Formed in 1987, they are one of the best known acts signed to UK electronic label Warp Records, through which all of Autechre's full-length albums have been released beginning with their 1993 debut Incunabula. They gained initial recognition when they were featured on Warp's 1992 compilation Artificial Intelligence.

With Tri Repetae, Autechre came into their own. The newfound confidence the group felt shines through in the choice of an album cover completely devoid of anything but a solid greenish-grey-gold color. But when Tri Rep came out, yeah, it did change-the colours changed, it all went a bit khaki, a bit robotic, a bit more combative-and people getting into that was a confidence boost

Autechre neither make casual music, nor do they make music casually: The English duo of Rob Brown and Sean Booth have released 11 albums under the name in the last 20 years, along with a chain of EPs that have generally been as integral to their evolution as the long-players. All of those albums easily pass the one-hour hurdle; 2008's excellent Quaristice comprised 20 relatively brief tracks cut from hours of extended jamming, but it still clocked in just shy of 74 minutes.

Autechre - NTS Sessions 1-4 Melodies are memorable. They activate chemicals in your brain like a key turning a lock. Autechre wouldn't have become so well-known without great melodies. Their early records, for this reason, remain their best-loved by a great many people. You can hum along to "Bike" or "Autriche" or "Slip. Much of Autechre's music has a strong focus on complex rhythm and driving percussion, and more recently, on meticulous sequencing. Later work has been notably experimental and abstract, in contrast to the more club-friendly and conventional early 1990s releases. Booth and Brown formed the group in 1987 while they were both living in Rochdale, United Kingdom.
