On the Line, Gary . Bonds' second comeback album under the sponsorship of Bruce Springsteen, was even more of a Springsteen record than its predecessor. This time, Springsteen wrote seven of the 11 songs, co-produced all of them with Miami Steve (Van Zandt) and again lent the E Street Band for the sessions. While there were no Springsteen masterpieces here, the rock & roll revival style of the material, similar to that on Dedication, made it, in effect, the follow-up to Springsteen's The River album, albeit with a different vocalist
On the Line is an album released by Gary . Bonds in 1982, the second of two on which he collaborated with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, the first being Dedication, released the previous year, 1981. The musicians accompanying Bonds on the album include many members of the E Street Band. The album includes seven songs written by Springsteen, one written by Steven Van Zandt, and two written by Bonds himself ("Turn the Music Down", "Bring Her Back"), and features a duet with Steven Van Zandt on the track "Angelyne"
Bonds (born Gary Levone Anderson, June 6, 1939, in Jacksonville, Florida) is an American rhythm and blues and rock and roll singer, known for his classic hits "New Orleans" and "Quarter to Three". Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Bonds lived in Norfolk, Virginia, in the 1950s when he began singing publicly in church and with a group called the Turks. He joined record producer Frank Guida's small Legrand Records label where Guida chose Anderson's stage name, .
Dedication is an album released by Gary . Bonds in 1981, the first of two on which he collaborated with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, the second being On the Line, released the following year, 1982. The musicians accompanying Bonds on the album include many members of the E Street Band and the Asbury Jukes
If this Gary US Bonds album was a quarter as good as the Sam Moore album, I would be happy. It is truly Fantastic! Bruce has shown his admiration of Gary . Bonds on several occasions, including presenting him with the "Pioneer Award" by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. His recordings of "Quarter to Three",and "New Orleans" were bright spots in the pre-Beatles '60s. So Gary was a Hero to Bruce growing up and Bruce and the E-Street Band often played "Quarter to Three" as their encore. Bruce and Gary crossed paths in New Jersey, and Bruce and Miami. It also includes On The Line, a cool follow up to Dedication with a gritty soul music. The album included 3 great songs "This Little Girl Is Mine," "Daddy's Come Home" and "Out of Work. If you like Mr. Bonds, you will not be disappointed by this collection.
