Achille) Claude Debussy (French: ; 22 August 1862 – 25 March 1918) was a French composer. He is sometimes seen as the first Impressionist composer, although he vigorously rejected the term. He was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born to a family of modest means and little cultural involvement, Debussy showed enough musical talent to be admitted at the age of ten to France's leading music college, the Conservatoire de Paris
Debussy went travelling with Tchaikovsky’s wealthy patroness, Nadezhda von Meck. In 1880 she sent Debussy’s Danse bohémienne to Tchaikovsky, but he wasn’t really sold on it: It is a very pretty piece, but it is much too short, he wrote. The three movements of Debussy’s Nocturnes, Nuages (Clouds), Fêtes (Festivals), and Sirènes (Sirens) were inspired by a series of impressionist paintings by James Abbott McNeill Whistler. He finished the work in December 1899. 11. Debussy's only opera: Pelléas et Mélisande.

There I found this album "Debussy's Greatest Hits" by Columbia Stereo Masterworks (its original vinyl version) and I bought it instantly. When I brought to my uncle's house and first played it on his turntable, I was instantly awed and mesmerized by the pieces Reverie, Arabesque No. 1 and The Girl with the Flaxen hair. Fêtes from Nocturnes: Debussy wrote Three Nocturnes for orchestra, of which this is the second movement. It is mostly advisable to listen to the complete work: Nuages (Clouds), Fêtes (Festivals), and Sirènes (Mermaids) instead of just this movement, especially if you are attracted to the mysterious, the mythical or the legendary. but surely it is one of his most exciting and intense orchestral pieces.
Festival Debussy, Argenton-sur-Creuse. La 7eme édition du Festival Debussy se déroulera du 26 au 29 juillet 2018, à Argenton-sur-Creuse (36).
The second movement of Nocturnes bears a title meaning Festivals. There is also the episode of the procession (a dazzling fantastic vision), which passes through the festive scene and becomes merged in it. But the background remains resistantly the same: the festival with its blending of music and luminous dust participating.
