Roxy Music is the debut studio album by the English glam rock band of the same name. It was released on 16 June 1972. It was generally well received by contemporary critics and made it to number 10 in the UK Albums Chart.

The release is nothing short of a milestone; the first time Roxy Music’s archives have been opened, offering rare and genuinely never-heard-before material outside Roxy’s inner circle. Roxy Music, led by the inimitable Bryan Ferry, were the first post-modern pop group; stylishly mixing culture, art, film and music into one singular, space-age cocktail. 45 years later, with the group’s involvement, we get an opportunity to fully assess the album, and most importantly, listen as Roxy evolved and developed. The box set provides a thrilling capture of Roxy Music in 1971/1972. Hear the demo tape that caught the attention of writer Richard Williams that ultimately led to their deal with EG Management and then Island Records.

Roxy Music were back in Air Studios to record their third album 'Stranded in September 1973. The album was released on 23rd November. The band tour UK in support of the new album beginning in Bath on 14th October. Bryan Ferry has come out from behind the keyboards now moved to centre stage leaving the keyboards to new member Eddie Jobson who also adds the violin as an additional solo instrument. The show at Glasgow Apollo is recorded on 2nd November 1973. Chance Meeting’ & ‘Pyjamarama’ are later used on a live album 3 years later

Roxy Music released their first album in 1972 entitled Roxy Music. A year later in 1973, the band released two albums entitled For Your Pleasure and Stranded. In 1974, Roxy Music released the record, Country Life. Siren was released in 1975 and the end of the decade in 1979 saw the issue of the Manifesto album. The band released two more albums in the 1980’s, the first being Flesh and Blood in 1980 and their final album in 1982 entitled Avalon. It was one of those albums I kept hidden from mom. 7 – The Bogus Man. Another great album cover and another great Roxy Music album featuring the killer track The Bogus Man.

Nearly two years later, Roxy Music returned in the summer of 1982 with Avalon. Marking a new level in the group's production and musical sophistication, Avalon became their biggest album, spending three weeks at the top of the British charts and 27 on the .

There are two Roxy Musics – and our 10 deals only with the first, those abrasive musical insurgents, not the smooth balladeers of later years. As mission statements go, the very first Roxy Music song on their self-titled debut album couldn’t be any more effusive or less idiosyncratic

Falling halfway between musical primitivism and art rock ambition, Roxy Music's eponymous debut remains a startling redefinition of rock's boundaries. Simultaneously embracing kitschy glamour and avant-pop, Roxy Music shimmers with seductive style and pulsates with disturbing synthetic textures.

Not that music was Roxy Music’s sole concern. Still astoundingly modern today, Roxy Music remains not only one of the finest debut albums in history, but rock music’s first true postmodern masterpiece. For later solo albums and Roxy Music appearances, Ferry would adopt the image of Bogart as Rick Blaine in Casablanca, suave in a white dinner jacket. On Roxy Music, Bogart is homaged in ‘2HB’, the lyrics directly quoting his Casablanca catchphrase: Here’s looking at you, kid.
