Not surprising for an album called Chaosphere, Meshuggah went into writing the album with a singular purpose: "I think the thought we had was to make kind of a chaotic album," vocalist Jens Kidman told FaceCulture, "and it kind of is chaotic. Indeed, it is. Following a lengthy tour in support of the rhythmically complex 1995 album Destroy Erase Improve, Meshuggah crafted a noisier, more tumultuous record driven by a far heavier groove than its predecessor.

This album is not a death metal album, in my eyes. It is what I would call a mindfuck metal album. Each song on Chaosphere just makes me wonder what it would feel like to be able to play in such quirky rythms. Ok, now onto a little history of the band. Meshuggah started off in 1985 in Sweden under the title Matallien. Jens Kidman, vocalist, left after a few years to form a new band, but he and lead guitarist Fredrik Thornendal reformed the band

Meshuggah (/məˈʃʊɡə/) is a Swedish extreme metal band from Umeå, formed in 1987. Meshuggah's line-up consists of founding members vocalist Jens Kidman and lead guitarist Fredrik Thordendal, drummer Tomas Haake, who joined in 1990, rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström, who joined in 1993 and bassist Dick Lövgren since 2004.
