obZen is the sixth album by Swedish heavy metal band Meshuggah. It was released in Europe on 7 March 2008, and in North America on 11 March 2008 through Nuclear Blast. Tomas Haake made his return as the studio drummer for the record after the Drumkit from Hell drum software was used on Catch Thirtythree. The release of the album was followed by their first world tour. A video was filmed for a shorter version of the song "Bleed".
This was my first Meshuggah album. I actually got it a month or so after it came out when I unintentionally got caught in the middle of all the hype that was going on about this record. Most of the people that I’ve talked to have said that ObZen is Meshuggah’s best album; which is a statement that I fully agree with. Meshuggah's 2008 LP "ObZen" points the band's musical direction more towards a nu metal kind of aggressiveness and heaviness than they are previously known for. Excluding the mid-range screaming vocals, the proof is in the writing and playing styles of no less than five of the nine tracks. These songs exhibit a power that smashes your senses like a hammer.
Produced by Meshuggah. A state of perfection, immersed in filth Equilibrium obtained Pure in devotion to all things unwell This sweet zen of our ill condition sustained. A new belief-system Salvation found in vomit and blood Where deprivation, lies Corruption, war and pain is god.
With 2008's obZen, Meshuggah moved away from the experimentation of 2002's Nothing and 2005's Catch Thirtythree to return to the musical style of its previous albums, such as Contradictions Collapse, Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere, while still maintaining its focus on musical and technical innovation
Eke the album name, ObZen.

Swedish math-metal pioneers MESHUGGAH were recently interviewed by Paolo Bianco of the Italian magazine Metal Shock about the upcoming album "obZen"
Meshuggah - "Obzen" (ObZen). From this album I choose my favourite parts from each song, cut them up and made the medley in Protools. I didn't alter the pitch or speed of any song. I wanted the transitions between each song to be as smooth and unnoticeable as i could whilst still keeping similar energy between songs. For the song 'Bleed' I really love the simplistic vocal phrasing over the opening riff so i played it on the snare to complement the part.
