Released in the wake of the success of Shadowfax's 1982 eponymous LP, Shadowdance saw the band beginning to take a new direction. First, the quartet was augmented to a sextet with the addition of keyboardist Jared Stewart and violinist Jamil Szmadzinski.

Shadowdance, the third album from the group, was released in late 1983. Topping at in the Billboard's Jazz charts, the album would eventually get a lot of "air play" on my CD player (and Bose speakers). I liked what they had. As I said, it was new and refreshing, it was soothing, it was quaint, it was alive.
