Daniel Joseph Anthony Meehan (2 March 1943 – 28 November 2005) professionally known as Tony Meehan was a founder member of the British group The Drifters, with Jet Harris, Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch, which would evolve into The Shadows. He played drums on early Cliff Richard and the Shadows hits and on early Shadows instrumentals. Meehan was professionally nicknamed "The Baron" by his many admirers and friends within the British pop/rock music industry.

This 2008 compilation contains the same exact 20 tracks as the very similarly titled 1989 Deram anthology Diamonds and Other Gems. Heavily rooted in the moody instrumental rock of the Shadows (in which both Harris and Meehan had previously played), the songs are, naturally, more bass-heavy, Harris being a bassist. At times - especially on the hits "The Man with the Golden Arm" and "Diamonds" - it's the equal of the Shadows at their best, with somewhat more of a spy movie-like menace than the Shadows boasted.

Mp365Mb . Jet Harris and Tony Meehan began playing together as members of the Shadows backing Cliff Richard. Despite the success of the group in its own right, both of them decided to quit. Meehan had left the group at the end of 1961 with plans to take up a job in A&R with the Decca record company.

Jet and Tony were original members of The Drifters along with Hank and Bruce later to become The Shadows. This rhythm section has never been bettered and is vastly underrated
