The Illusionist (Dutch: De illusionist) is a 1983 Dutch comedy film directed by Jos Stelling and starring Freek de Jonge. The film has no dialogue. It won the Golden Calf for Best Feature Film at the 1984 Netherlands Film Festival. Freek de Jonge as the illusionist. Jim van der Woude as brother. Catrien Wolthuizen as mother. This disc provides soundtrack material for two films featuring the Dutch actor Freek de Jonge and, while showing clearly where Breuker draws much inspiration, it is quite enjoyable on its own terms. The main theme from De Illusionist is one of the most charming that he ever composed - even as it bows deeply in the direction of Ennio Morricone - and it resurfaces in various guises throughout the work. The rare (for Breuker) use of guitar and bass guitar also evokes the Italian master.
