Before & After is an album by Swedish band The Wannadies. Originally released in Scandinavia in 2002 on two compact discs comprising the 'before' and 'after' parts, the album was released on 8 September 2003 in the UK on a single disc with an enhanced multimedia section featuring videos for the singles "Skin", "Disko" and "Little By Little". All tracks written by Wiksten, S. Schönfeldt, F. Schönfeldt, Karlsson, Dahlgren.

If Yeah was the sound of the Wannadies getting bad blood out of their system, then Before and After is its joyous, carefree follow-up, a record as free and uninhibited as the last weeks of June, when the promise of the entire summer still lies ahead. Well, mostly anyway - the Wannadies haven't completely abandoned their demons, as a song like "Piss on You" shows - but this is basically a happier Wannadies than the last time out. So why does it feel so hollow? Before and After was marked by a slightly difficult birth - initially conceived as a "concept" double album.

One album (Before) was intended to be the "party record," with quick, snappy tunes you might dance to, while the second (After) was to be the "comedown," full of ballads and slower tracks. It's clear from the final version, however, that this concept could never have played out effectively, since the band simply doesn't vary their sound enough to really convey different moods- the slow tracks feel just as upbeat as the fast ones, and the fast ones aren't terribly danceable in their own right. Ultimately, The Wannadies are exactly good enough to pull off a 36-minute pop record, so it's for the best that they left their lofty ambitions at the curbside and concentrated on writing pure sugar like "All Over Me" and "Disko", the latter of which leads off the After half of the album with a slippery lounge groove, some big guitar hooks.

The Wannadies played their first concert, a festival in support of the Nicaraguan Sandinistas, in October 1988 and only weeks later entered local studio KN to record the three tracks that would become their debut release-the Smile EP. Smile was released in February 1989 and managed to pick up several 'single of the week' accolades from national newspapers as well as airplay on indie radio shows such as 'Bommen' despite little or no marketing. After sorting out problems with their Swedish record label The Wannadies now felt they were suffering from a lack of support from BMG in the UK and went on strike. With Nille Perned again producing, the band released Before & After in 2002 in Scandinavia through the National record label and on 8 September 2003 in the UK on Cooking Vinyl records (who also handled distribution for the rest of the world).
