However, Vaitojimas is much more than just a heavy, post black album, it’s a hardcore influenced, sludge based, black monstrosity that oozes perfection. From the very first tortured howl, the raw emotion is engrossing to the point of disbelief. The guttural, pained wailing is only punctuated by the dual guitar lines; one screeching and distorted, the other so heavy it’s hypnotising.

Erdve’s Vaitojimas defines this very metaphor, being the tumultuous example of an excellent wine; given time, a chance to breathe and the patience to simply be enjoyed for what it is. Vaitojimas is a titan, capable of crushing metaphorical skulls, relentlessly using its driving riff work to culminate a passive atmosphere that brings listeners to the very edge of suffocation, but gentle where and when it needs to be. Opening with the album’s tumultuous title track, Erdve make a strong statement. The sheer heaviness of the track (and Prievarta ) helps identify the core values of what Vaitojimas will offer upon the first or even hundredth listen.

If your home country only has a whopping 172 bands documented on The Metal Archives, with roughly half of them split up or otherwise disbanded, there’s a decent chance that relatively few people have ever heard your particular take on metal before. Such is the case for Erdve, a fledgling four-piece emerging from the enigmatic Lithuanian underground. In the case of Vaitojimas, this same untrendy trend is being kept alive and well, preserved in sludge and given a revitalizing shot of hardcore vocals.

As genre purity has gone out the window (thank God/Satan), we seem to be at a high point for the new breed of musical alchemists: the art of blending and hybridizing styles. Lithuanian noise monger, Erdve, offer up one Hell of a captivating dose of sonic mayhem that sounds like it’s successfully ushering in the apocalypse.
