Steely Dan is an American rock band founded in 1972 by core members Walter Becker (guitars, bass, backing vocals) and Donald Fagen (keyboards, lead vocals). Blending rock, jazz, traditional pop, R&B, and sophisticated studio production with cryptic and ironic lyrics, the band enjoyed critical and commercial success starting from the early 1970s until breaking up in 1981

Steely Dan replaced Hodder with Jeff Porcaro and added keyboardist/backup vocalist Michael McDonald prior to recording their third album, Pretzel Logic. Released in the spring of 1974, Pretzel Logic returned Steely Dan to the Top Ten on the strength of the single "Rikki Don't Lose That Number. After completing the supporting tour for Pretzel Logic, Becker and Fagen decided to retire from live performances and make Steely Dan a studio-based band. For their next album, 1975's Katy Lied, the duo hired a variety of studio musicians - including Dias, Porcaro, guitarist Elliot.

Jazz rockers Steely Dan, led by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, perform their greatest hits, including 'Peg' and 'Do It Again' in front of a live audience. However, on this recording you do have the added benefit of the sensational vocals of Michael McDonald. As Donald Fagen stated of McDonald's on the liner notes of the highly recommended CD entitled 'The New York Rock and Soul Revue' - "When he sang alone, the crowd reaction made me wonder what I was doing up front.

Steely Dan is one of the most important bands to come out of the 70’s. Their unique approach to pop music–a slick combination of jazz, off-center chord progressions, meticulous arrangements, and introspective lyrics–has left an indelible stamp on the world of music. The band essentially created their own genre; they didn’t allow outside influences to change their artistic output, and they maintained a stylistic integrity throughout their career, even apologizing for their own recordings that they felt were sub-par.

Steely Dan's Aja is probably the most often used album as reference material when testing a sound system. kjoro 17 очков18 очков19 очков 1 год назад (0 дочерних ветвей). извините, но пост отправлен в архив и за него больше нельзя голосовать. Their albums are pure perfection. You can hear each and every instrument clearly and cleanly. There isn't an overbearing bass, or screeching distorted guitar or bashing of drums. like a big fusion stew. I like everything by them, but if I had to pick a single album, it would probably be "Pretzel Logic".

Aja (/ˈeɪʒə/, pronounced Asia) is the sixth studio album by the jazz rock band Steely Dan. Originally released in 1977 on ABC Records, the album peaked at number three on the US charts and number five in the UK. It was the band's first platinum album and ultimately became their best-selling studio release, eventually selling over 5 million copies. It spawned a number of hit singles, including "Peg", "Deacon Blues", and "Josie"

Steely Dan made a career out of subverting expectations. Their warped, jazz-steeped take on the blues achieved unlikely platinum success early in the band's career - and only increased after leaders Donald Fagen and Walter Becker pulled the group off the road and slowly winnowed the lineup down to a duo augmented by session players. Then, after 1980's Gaucho LP, they fizzed out and disappeared for over a decade. 29, 2000, they subverted expectations again, releasing their first new album in 20 years. Titled Two Against Nature, it managed the seemingly impossible feat of picking up pretty much exactly where Becker and Fagen left off with Gaucho: Hunched over the mixing board, exerting exacting control over airtight grooves and arrangements, still thoroughly out-of-step with prevailing trends.
