Unto the Locust is the seventh full-length studio album by American heavy metal band Machine Head, released in Australia on September 23, in the UK on September 26 and worldwide on September 27, 2011. The album was produced and mixed by Robb Flynn, and it was the band’s highest charting album ever, charting at 22 on the Billboard 200, until their following release Bloodstone & Diamonds charted at 21. Unto the Locust was recorded in Green Day’s Jingletown Studios.

A children’s choir on a Machine Head album? This is the case with the last song, ‘Who We Ar. As listeners get through the first 30 seconds of the slightly eerie kids singing, the track leads into an unrelenting anthem of strength. With spiraling guitar solos throughout and a military sounding snare towards the conclusion of the song, violins get the last word in the end. As epic sounding as the album started in the beginning is as dramatic as ‘Unto the Locust’ ends. Watch the Lyric Video for 'Locust'. Filed Under: Machine Head.

Track CD-7 - children's choir with the children of producer Urteaga, Phil Demmel and Robert Flynn. Issued under license to Roadrunner Records from Machine Head. Roadrunner Records is a registered trademark of The All Blacks .

Album seven, Unto the Locust, is just as big as The Blackening, but it feels tighter, more easily digested, and yet somehow pleasingly rougher around the edges. As a whole, I ultimately prefer its predecessor, but Unto the Locust's highs go places only hinted at on the earlier collection. See, for instance, opener, "I Am Hell (Sonata in C an eight-minute, three-movement anthem that starts, somberly, with a mass of a cappella voices, Flynn singing elegantly in Latin about a female arsonist. Machine Head are still very heavy, they've just done away with their earlier template. Despite the length of these songs, Unto the Locust is focused, with memorable choruses, expressive riffs, escalating dynamics, and swarming instrumentation. Crunching floor punching shifts easily into acoustic madrigals. Classical moments turn into vintage thrash.

Album · 2011 · 7 Songs. After the epic grandeur and perfection of The Blackening, Machine Head delivers Unto the Locust, an album that lives up to its deserved reputation. The band doesn’t waste ideas here or water down its best ones; it hits everything dead-on, and the welcomed complexity is a great relief for a genre often hampered by groups unable to break free from self-imposed rules and limits. At seven and a half minutes, Locust, like many tunes here, starts with melodic introspection before tearing the listener’s head off with vicious guitar riffing and demanding drum rhythms

Unto The Locust is overall a nice album, except for the last song. It's one of the stronger entries in Machine Head's catalog, but does not outdo the Blackening on terms of their respective strengths and weaknesses. With more strong tracks it could have easily beaten out The Blackening as their best effort if not for the lackluster ending track. Unto The Locust is still a memorable piece that will easily please fans of late-era Machine Head
