MacArthur Park" is a song written and composed by Jimmy Webb. Richard Harris was the first to record it in 1968; his version peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number four on the UK Singles Chart. MacArthur Park" was subsequently covered by numerous artists, including a 1969 Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal-winning version by country music singer Waylon Jennings and a number one Billboard Hot 100 disco arrangement by Donna Summer in 1978.

CanadaI listened to Richard Harris sing McArthur Park in the late 60's that was part of an album with a mix of other music. I think we wore out that album playing it over and over and over at the highest level possible on the record player And on August 24th, 1968 it reached {for 2 weeks} on the Australian Kent Music chart.

Of course, MacArthur Park is on this album and the cake is still melting in the rain, but the other lyrics and themes are equally colorful. Love it or hate it. It will stick in your mind as it did in mine for more than 20 years after I lost the original vinyl album. There is nothing like MacArthur Park in high volume hi fi. Supposedly, many of the songs were written after Jimmy Webb's heart was broken by the cousin of Linda Ronstadt and although poetic, there is much literal about the emotion in the songs and music  .
