The Similitude of a Dream is the second studio album by progressive rock supergroup The Neal Morse Band, released on November 11, 2016. It is a concept album, loosely based on The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan. All lyrics written by Neal Morse; all music composed by Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Randy George, Bill Hubauer and Eric Gillette. Neal Morse – lead vocals, keyboards, 6 & 12 string electric guitars, percussion, mandolin. Mike Portnoy – drums, vocals.

The Tilburg audience is treated to over 2 hours of astounding Neal Morse Band-style prog. The venue is excellent, with wide open sight-lines and fantastic lighting throughout. This is the first time we’ve seen him use props and costume changes to act out a character from an album. Extra points to Eric Gillette for the superb audio mix on this release. What some may not quite glean from the studio recording of The Similitude Of A Dream is the sheer quantity of vocal harmonies on this album. At times 3, 4 and even all 5 band members are flexing their vocal muscles, creating a delicious blend of melody and harmony. They even manage to extend a bit of the Hubauer penned The Ways of a Fool simply to highlight this vocal interplay.

THIS is THE ALBUM of mine (& Neal's) careers. Clocking in at over 100 minutes on 2 CDs, this amazing piece of prog storytelling will leave you breathless, exhilarated, amused, and fulfilled in a way that only inspired music can. There is additional instrumentation on various tracks (String quartet, Saxophone, a horn section, lap-steel guitar, a choir, et. provided by a slew of guest musicians. This statement is no exaggeration. This ambitious double album, loosely based on the novel, The Pilgrim’s Progress, by John Bunyan, takes the listener on a demanding emotional ride. From start to finish, it is engaging, original, catchy, and memorable. The songwriting is absolutely brilliant, and NEVER once comes off as repetitive. The overall sound is based around a rock band, but the music is very much progressive music in the classic sense.

Talk about The Neal Morse Band - The Similitude Of A Dream

Does anyone know if the limited edition number is also printed inside the package? It looks like it may only be printed on the cellophane wrapper to me (which is rather frustrating...).
Ximathewi
I try to transfer any special labels from the cellophane to a clear plastic outer sleeve. That way I can keep the label with the album and it doesn't damage the outer sleeve. Depending on the label some are easier to remove than others without damaging them.
Kalv
Thanks for confirming my suspicion - much appreciated! Agreed, not a good solution.
Moogugore
It's only the sticker on the wrapper. I took it oft and put it in them cover. Not the best solution - sadly

"THIS is THE ALBUM of mine (& Neal's) careers... it's so monumentally EPIC and perfect and every way..." - Mike Portnoy.Yes, Mike, you're indeed right."The Similitude of a Dream" probably redefines the whole concept of modern prog-rock opera, yes, it's derivative, how could it not be, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush, Dream Theater, they're all here and the opus certainly reminisces of the latest Transatlantic efforts, but there is so much content packed in 3 discs (technically 2 1/2) that it would be a crime not to praise the effort these guys put in a concept that it's not only musically impeccable but also so well balanced and cohesive it's embarrassingly easy to get absorbed in the story our modern day minstrels are telling us.As for the release itself, the sound is dynamically rich with almost non-existing noise floor in a nice tri-fold packaging with artwork inspired by the book the story is loosely based on (Pilgrim's Progress' by John Bunyan). An "astonishing" prog-rock masterpiece (pun intended).
