Just Like the Fambly Cat is the fourth studio album by American indie rock band Grandaddy. It was released on May 9, 2006 by record label V2. The album reached No. 171 on the Billboard 200, No. 10 on the Top Independent Albums chart and No. 50 on the UK Albums Chart. It was well received by music critics

Grandaddy's final album before taking a long break serves as a timely reminder of the group's strengths, as they manage to pull themselves out of the slump they were in and deliver a fine epitaph. Their previous album, Sumday, was a disappointment, a definite comedown from the heights of Sophtware Slump. It sounded like the work of a band coasting along without any commitment to the material - a good band with some fine songs, but still failing to live up to its potential. Just Like the Fambly Cat sounds like the work of a band with something to prove, but really it's the solo.

The album’s title is a reference to frontman Jason Lytle’s desire to leave his home town of Modesto, California without any fuss, stating do that, almost out of respect and not wanting to put people out because when the family cat dies, he doesn’t make a big deal about i. e just disappears. Lytle spent eighteen months recording the album at a studio in Modesto, California

Grandaddy's 2000 masterpiece The Sophtware Slump was, like Radiohead's OK Computer, a brave, beautiful statement of millennial ennui. On their fifth album, however, the only blues frontman Jason Lytle is singing about are his own. Last year he bade farewell to his hometown of Modesto, California in the shape of a grumpy mini-album, and in January he announced he was dissolving the band. Lytle wrote and produced everything himself anyway, but the split renders him a lonely figure and this album a kind of wake.

Their previous album, Sumday, was a disappointment, a definite comedown from the heights of Sophtware Slump. Just Like the Fambly Cat sounds like the work of a band with something to prove, but really it's the solo work of the band's chief songwriter and vocalist, Jason Lytle. He took over the reins of the band, and with the occasional help of drummer Aaron Burtch, recorded everything himself.

Lytle regarded Just Like the Fambly Cat as a "pretty fitting" last stop for Grandaddy. But he continued to make music and perform solo, and worked with M. Ward on Hold Time. In 2009 Lytle moved from Modesto to Montana, and released his first solo album Yours Truly, the Commuter. Lytle also noted that he was likely to record a new Grandaddy album, stating, "It's probably going to happen. If anyone knows anything about Grandaddy, they realise that my music and Grandaddy's music is slightly interchangeable. I think if I were to focus on making a Grandaddy record a full-blown Grandaddy record, and I like the idea of that.
