Ticket to Ride is the first studio album by American music duo the Carpenters. At the time of its initial release in 1969, it was issued under the title Offering, with a completely different cover photo. It was a commercial failure and produced only one minor hit single, a ballad version of the Lennon-McCartney song "Ticket to Ride". After the Carpenters' subsequent breakthrough, however, the album was reissued internationally under the name Ticket to Ride and sold moderately
Carpenters – Ticket To Ride. Label: A&M Records – SP 4205, A&M Records – SP-4205. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album. It was re-designed and re-titled and released in 1970 as "Ticket To Ride". Karen Carpenter played Electric Bass on two songs according to the back cover, but the songs are not specified. Side A: SP-4309 Side B: SP-4310.
Ticket to Ride" is a song written by John Lennon & Paul McCartney of The Beatles. Their version was released in 1965 on the album Help!. The Carpenters covered the song in 1969 for their debut album of the same name. The Carpenters' version only peaked at on the Billboard Hot 100. Richard heard the Beatles' number one recording of "Ticket to Ride" one day in 1969 and decided it would make a good ballad.
Produced by Jack Daugherty. Ticket To Ride Lyrics. I think I'm going to be sad I think it's today, yeah The boy that's driving me mad Is going away. He's got a ticket to ride He's got a ticket to ride He's got a ticket to ride And he don't care. He said that living with me Was bringing him down, yeah He would never be free When I was around. He's got a ticket to ride He's got a ticket to ride He's got a ticket to ride And he don't care
Carpenters/ticket to ride/SP 4205. Karen & I signed with A&M Records in April, 1969, and almost immediately started work on this album. It is definitely a reflection of its time (pre-1969), with the exception of Ticket To Ride. A number of selections on Offering were being performed by our group Spectrum as early as 1967. At that time, Karen was not as much into singing as she later became. This explains the number of my leads on this album.
In some ways, Ticket to Ride is the Carpenters' most interesting album, for it contains a range of interests and sounds that were modified or abandoned on subsequent albums. The lushly orchestrated "Someday" is a brilliant showcase for Richard's arranging skills and the most dramatic side of Karen's voice - it points the way toward songs like "Crescent Noon" on the next album, and although that highly dramatic sound proved a blind alley, it did result in some ravishing performances by the duo.
