David Torn, G. Gordon - Best Laid Plans (Album). ECM Records, ECM Records.

The David Torn Collection Times Square Records 1998. Polytown Creative Music Prod.

Artist: David Bateman. Album: The Manor (Original Motion Picture Score). Quality: 320Kbps, Lossless. Album: Father of the Bride.

David Torn isn’t really a household name in scoring, but he has composed quite a few scores in his musical career. His style of textural and tonal music is a perfect fit for light drama with a comedic tinge to it. One could easily dismiss a movie like That Awkward Moment from having any sort of substantial score, but David Torn’s echoing textures make for a pretty interesting palette of music here. The album is filled with lots of songs so it essentially is a hybrid song/score soundtrack. Torn’s score totally stands on its own, and for how little score there is I think it’s impressive how much weight it carries. This is a case where more would have been a lot better since the music here does feel like an incomplete thought.
