Released two years after the phenomenal Infinity album, Physicist may rank as one of the most Strapping Young Lad-ish albums in Devin’s solo career, which really shouldn’t be a surprise, given that this album has the exact same line-up as Strapping Young Lad (Devin, Gene Hoglan, Byron Stroud, and Jed Simon). These two tracks, plus the mid-album ripper Death, are some of the most intensely metal moments in Devin’s solo career thus far. The latter track, in particular, rather in keeping with its title, is the most face-shredding piece here, kicking off with the, ahem, soothing tones of Gene Hoglan blast-beating the shit out of your ears.

Infinity is the third studio album by Canadian musician Devin Townsend. It was recorded from April 1997 to August 1998 at Red Stripe Studios in British Columbia.

Devin's current project, known as Devin Townsend Project, is a musical journey through the past 3 years of his life, having a kid, quitting marijuana and booze, and many other personal changes. The Project consists of 4 albums which will be released 2009-2010. Tracks From Physicist Infinity Ocean Machine ‎(CD, Maxi, Promo).

Devin Townsend claims that after writing Ocean Machine’s debut Biomech, he went through some personal struggles that altered the way he wrote his following two albums. Clearly, he was not kidding. There is an obvious difference in the way Mr. Townsend approached Infinity. While Biomech has a more serious and traditional sound, Infinity takes on a much more experimental and quirky approach. The tracks on Infinity are without a doubt some of the craziest songs of Devy’s career. His craziest piece might just be Ants, where the listener could potentially visualize Townsend getting up on a chair and performing the song on his guitar, all while dancing in circles on one leg.
