Devin Townsend is a Canadian musician, songwriter, and record producer. After launching his musical career in 1993 with singing effort on Vai's Sex & Religion and subsequent tour, Townsend released the album Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing under the pseudonym Strapping Young Lad, in 1995. His debut solo release was 1996's Punky Brüster – Cooked on Phonics.

Devin Townsend Unplugged. dig it. excellent. nothing about it is at all reminiscent of what I love about all of Devin Townsend's other music. Much of what draws me to Devin is the energy and vitality in his music; even on slower/more subtle albums like Ki and Ocean Machine: Biomech very disappointing.

Empath is the eighteenth studio album by Canadian metal musician Devin Townsend, released on his own label HevyDevy Records on March 29, 2019. It is his first solo album since Dark Matters, which was a part of the 2014 double album Z², and his first release to act solely as a solo album since 2007's Ziltoid the Omniscient.

Throughout his long career, Devin Townsend has been an artist that has defied any label or boundary.
