In the last decade of his life, Duke Ellington wrote three Sacred Concerts: 1965 - A Concert of Sacred Music. 1968 - Second Sacred Concert. 1973 - Third Sacred Concert. Ellington called these concerts "the most important thing I have ever done". He said many times that he was not trying to compose a "Mass" (liturgy). The critic Gary Giddins has characterized these concerts as Ellington bringing the Cotton Club revue to the church.

Dorian Gray is a fictional character and the protagonist of Oscar Wilde's 1891 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. He is an aristocratic Victorian man. Dorian is the grandson of the late Lord Kelso. His mother, Lady Margaret Devereux, was portrayed as a beautiful and rich woman. Her grandfather had a strong dislike for Kelso, and in turn, Margaret received the entire Selby property.

This collection of sacred works by Henry Purcell features some of the composer’s best-known choral works framed by the large scale works O sing unto the Lord, Z44 and the Te Deum in D major, Z232. Completing this collection is the organ Voluntary in G major, Z720, in a striking performance by John Scott. In 1998 he was nominated International Performer of the Year by the New York Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He is a Past President of the Incorporated Association of Organists. He has been a member of a number of international competition juries, including those in Manchester, Dublin, Chartres, Dallas, St. Albans and Erfurt. Concert Royal one of the first original instrument ensembles in New York, was founded by Artistic Director James Richman, harpsichordist and leader in the early music field.

Undeniably, opera was for several centuries the most important genre for women singers who were not permitted to sing in church until late in the eighteenth century. Opera was, in fact, the only truly public musical genre until the second half of that century. The increasing importance of the concert in the late eighteenth century gave rise to new repertoire, the "concert aria," composed for example by Mozart for Nancy Storace and for Josepha Duschek, and eventually in the nineteenth century the art song, especially the lied, for the increasingly more intimate ambiance of the recital. Singers excluded from the opera stage by the nature of their voice, their personality, or operatic politics could work in this new chamber setting, which.

The Dorian Mode ranges from rock to jazz, and funk to folk. In today’s music, the Dorian mode is the next most popular and useful seven-note scale. By shifting the tonic to a different degree in the major scale, you create a whole new scale with a whole new feel – without changing a single note! The coolest thing about modes is that you already know them! Once you know a major scale, you merely have to take the same notes, start and finish on a different scale step and you’ve gone totally modal!
