The album FM & AM proved very popular. It marked Carlin's change from mainstream to counterculture comedy. The "AM" side was an extension of Carlin's previous style, with zany but relatively clean routines parodying aspects of American life. The "FM" side introduced Carlin's new style, with references to marijuana and birth control pills, and a playful examination of the word "shit" On stage, during a rendition of his "Dirty Words" routine, Carlin learned that his previous comedy album FM & AM had won the Grammy.

George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 - June 23, 2008) was a Grammy-winning American stand-up comedian, actor, and author. In fact, Carlin and his "Seven Dirty Words" comedy routine were central to the 1978 . Supreme Court case .

This is essential for fans who want to experience the transition from clean Carlin to filthy, long haired, college town-frequenting Carlin within the same album. The FM side covers the baby steps of his raunchy persona, recorded in a warmly intimate setting, and the AM side is a compilation of his most famous clean sketches. 12. An Evening with Wally Londo Featuring Bill Slaszo (1975). This is a good album to track down if you want to know George Carlin the man over George Carlin the comedian. 9. Class Clown (1972). This is the best of the pre-HBO, audio-only material Carlin fans can get their hands on. This impeccably paced album begins with Carlin distilling the genesis of his career to being the class clown at his school, and ends with the first appearance of his iconic Seven Words You Can’t Say on Television bit. 8. What Am I Doing in New Jersey? (1988).

Also included is a home recording from 1957 which finds a young George Carlin, in the words of Lewis Black, ''already speaking with an authority that would become his trademark,'' as well as interviews with long-time manager Jerry Hamza and Rocco Urbisci, director of 10 of Carlin's HBO® specials. Showcasing a comic legend at work over the course of almost 50 years, ''I Kinda Like It When a Lotta People Die'' proves once again that George Carlin will forever be the king of cutting edge comedy. I laughed as hard at this album as I did at "Class Clown", "FM & AM", and "Occupation Foole", his first albums from so many years ago. He always worked on his craft, practiced his delivery, and excelled in each performance so that his listeners and fans received an awesome product.
