In Nothing’s Real, doctors tell Shura that her panic attack has no medical basis, and hook her up to an ECG to prove it. I see my heartbeat inside a television screen, she sings, niftily marking the distance between fact and feeling with an image right out of the kind of ’80s pop video her music would have once called home: Nothing’s Real struts and whirls like Kylie Minogue spinning around in a Devonté Hynes disco mix. Born Aleksandra Denton to a Russian mother and British father, Shura lived in Manchester as a kid and later became a youth footballer for Manchester City. The result, Nothing’s Real, is a coming-of-age record documenting that period when, per Shura’s hospital experience, feelings become untrustworthy. Maybe I knew right from the start and that’s exactly how I broke us down, she frets on Kidz N Stuff (a title that also neatly outlines 20-something imaginations of adult relationships).

With Nothing’s Real, Shura has pulled off a similar feat. When she interviewed Tegan and Sara for Best Fit, she said she struggles with the concept of the perfect pop song, but the evidence of her debut points to the contrary, barring two lovely instrumental interludes, song after song is a masterclass in how to write a pop song. Shura’s not alone in carrying the pop torch - artists like Dua Lipa and Natali Felicia are also writing similarly dazzlingly pop music - but she’s the first of the new breed of pop purists out of the traps with a finished album

Not your expensive car, or pretty home. Not your take home meal. Not your jeans, your suit, your dress, your hat. Nothing’s real. okay but you all need to listen to Nothing’s Real, honestly one of the best albums of 2016 (lbr one of the few good things to come out of that awful year), Shura is a musical genius and makes the exact kind of Space Lesbian Indie Pop that the gays need. shura nothing's real rambling.

In all, 'Nothing’s Real' is an impeccable debut, worth sitting down and appreciating in its entirety. That the album tracks stand up alongside singles as successful as 'Touch' is noteworthy in and of itself; that several exceed it is all the more impressive. If 'Indecision' is the lowest point of an album, you’ve clearly done a stellar job. This is 2016’s pop music at its 80’s-influenced best.

It doesn’t happen often, but there are insomniac moments where I find myself trying to lull myself back to sleep by imagining all the things I could’ve done better - relationships I fucked up, relationships I was too chickenshit to start, relationships I never even paused to consider as possibilities because I can’t process things as they happen. I’m happy with where I ended up in life, so I don’t dwell on it too often, but it’s always there: that impulse to deconstruct my own past, to figure out what I did wrong. I imagine that’s what Shura spends a lot of her time doing.

Young English Cobain enthusiast has finally announced her debut LP "Nothing's Real" to be released this summer. The album features several unreleased tracks, as well as several of Shura's previously released singles, including "2Shy," "Indecision," and an extended version of hit single "White Light. Shura's eclectic style has already impressed critics and fans alike, and she will be touring this summer. Submitted By Corey B.

Talk about Shura - Nothing's Real

Ynap
High quality release. Sound is very bright, barely any surface noise on my copy. I am keeping this in a more sturdy resealable clear outer jacket to protect the white gatefold.
Eayaroler
I asked her on Twitter how many copies were pressed and she said 500.
Faehn
This pressing is flawless. You should get it if you can!
