Seventh Star is the 12th studio album by English rock band Black Sabbath. Released in January 1986, it features musicians Geoff Nicholls, Eric Singer, and Dave Spitz, playing keyboards, drums, and bass, respectively, and Glenn Hughes, ex-Deep Purple bassist and vocalist, as lead singer. The album was the group's first release without bassist Geezer Butler, who left the band in 1984 after the Born Again tour. It was originally written, recorded, and intended to be the first solo album by Iommi

Seventh Star is a studio album marketed as being by English rock band Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi, the sole original member (while also being the bands 12th studio album). The album was the group’s first release without bassist Geezer Butler, who left the band in 1984 after the aforementioned Born Again tour

Seventh Star is the twelfth studio album by Black Sabbath, released in January 1986. It was also the first Black Sabbath release not to feature bassist Geezer Butler, who left the band in 1984 after the Born Again tour, leaving guitarist Tony Iommi as the sole original member left in the band. It was originally written, recorded, and intended to be the first solo album by Iommi, but due to pressures by Warner Bros. Records and the prompting of band manager Don Arden, the record was billed as Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi. Glenn Hughes, ex-Deep Purple bassist and vocalist, was lead singer.

In January 1986, one of heavy metal's greatest architects, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, unveiled what had been meant to be his first solo album, Seventh Star. Except pressure from his record company ultimately saw the LP branded as a yet another Sabbath release ("Black Sabbath Featuring Tony Iommi," to be precise), and it would go down as one of metal's most misunderstood and unfairly maligned albums.

Seventh Star was originally intended to be Tony Iommi's first solo album rather than another Black Sabbath album. But pressure from the record company forced Iommi to release this under the name of 'Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi'. Black Sabbath featuring only Tony Iommi' would perhaps have been more appropriate since he was the only remaining member (not counting the very loyal keyboard player Geoff Nicholls who appeared on all Black Sabbath albums throughout the whole 80's and the early 90's).
