The J. Geils Band's self-titled debut serves notice that rock & roll wasn't dead in 1970 despite the best efforts of the singer/songwriter brigade. Though it sounds a bit reserved in the light of the albums that followed, compared to the majority of bands on the scene, it was a nonstop blast of energy, fun, and sweat
That's why we're getting the band back together We haven't jammed in like forever When do we stop? We say never But they paid us legal tender so we're getting back together And we thought this song was clever We was wrong. The KGB is back on the scene We're lean mean shaved clean and obscene Got an appetite for rock that makes us fiend To be jamming all night With a band that's tight Gonna make you scream While we're living our dream
Together, they made Loan Me a Dime an FM-radio classic – more than 10 minutes of knockout blues pleading and wailing. King’s first album for the Stax label combines his hard, unflashy guitar playing with the sleek sound of the label’s house band, Booker T. and the MG’s. Hits such as Crosscut Saw and Laundromat Blues earned King a new rock & roll audience.
