Rodgers & Hammerstein's OKLAHOMA! Tony Award Winner Ali Stroker. Limited broadway engagement. Over 75 years after Rodgers & Hammerstein reinvented the American musical, this is OKLAHOMA! as you’ve never seen or heard it before – reimagined for the 21st century.
Rodgers & Hammerstein, Laurence Guittard, Christine Andreas, Christine Ebersole - Oklahoma! (CD, Album). Rodgers And Hammerstein. Oklahoma! Broadway Cast Album (CD, Album).
Rodgers and Hammerstein refers to the duo of composer Richard Rodgers (1902–1979) and lyricist-dramatist Oscar Hammerstein II (1895–1960), who together were an influential, innovative and successful American musical theatre writing team. They created a string of popular Broadway musicals in the 1940s and 1950s, initiating what is considered the "golden age" of musical theatre.
Oklahoma! (Original Cast Album 75th Anniversary). It's been said that Rodgers & Hammerstein's musical interpretation of Lynn Riggs's Green Grow the Lilacs was the beginning of the modern American musical. Likewise, the show also gave birth to the "Original Cast" recording, when, for the first time ever, Decca producer Jack Kapp took the entire cast, chorus, and orchestra into a studio to record this LP, which entered the NARAS Hall of Fame in 1996. Alas, in 1998, what's here sounds like something recorded in 1943 for 78-rpm vinyl albums.
A new production of "Carousel" opens on Broadway this week. In the new book "Something Wonderful: Rodgers And Hammerstein's Broadway Revolution," my guest Todd Purdum tells the story of their partnership. We're going to hear some Rodgers and Hammerstein cast recordings. Purdum also selected for us a couple of interview excerpts with Rodgers and Hammerstein that we'll hear later. Let's start with one of the Rodgers and Hammerstein songs that have had a long life beyond Broadway. This is Sarah Vaughan and Miles Davis.

Overview - The BEST Broadway source for Oklahoma! tickets and Oklahoma! information, photos and videos. This production shocked and moved me, raves Frank Rich of New York Magazine. Forget your traditional idea of Oklahoma!
Unlike the original Broadway cast album, which was recorded for 78 rpm records with their inherent time limitations, the new LP, recorded in early 1980, was able to include more of the music than ever before. It and the show from which it derived made for a fitting memorial for Rodgers and confirmed the primacy of Oklahoma! in the history of the musical theater. Original Broadway Cast. 2. Act 1. Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'. Oscar Hammerstein II, Richard Rodgers.
