It's synthpop style is excellent and the lyrics are very well written actually. The first half of the album is excellent, not a single problem with it. The songs are catchy, with good melody and fun lyrics. Currents is actually bad music, no matter what style we are talking about. This is really sad, cause Tame Impala used to be an amazing song. 4 of 38 users found this helpful.
The album marks Tame Impala’s venture deeper into the ever-growing world of electronic music, but doesn’t stray too far from their rock roots. The band dropped a number of singles leading up to the July 17, 2015 release date, including the groovy slow jam ‘Cause I’m A Man, and the upbeat, dancy Disciples, the latter of which frontman Kevin Parker publicized via his Reddit AMA. Currents was almost universally lauded by critics, and was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
The discography of Tame Impala, a psychedelic rock project by the Australian musician Kevin Parker, consists of three studio albums, two live albums, three extended plays, thirteen singles and several collaborations and compilation appearances. Tame Impala were formed in Perth in 2007 after Parker's home recordings on Myspace drew attention from the independent record label Modular Recordings.
Currents is the third studio album by Australian artist Tame Impala. It was released on 17 July 2015 by Modular Recordings and Universal Music Australia, Interscope Records in the United States, and Fiction Records and Caroline International in other international regions. Like the group's previous two albums, Currents was written, recorded, performed, and produced by primary member Kevin Parker. For the first time, Parker mixed the music and recorded all instruments by himself; the album featured no other collaborators.
Tame Impala "Currents" album cover. This article originally appeared on The Creators Project Australia. Kentucky-based designer Robert Beatty is the mastermind behind the album (and single) artwork for Tame Impala’s much-anticipated Currents, released last week. How do your visuals and Tame Impala’s music go ent each other? I think both Tame Impala and I use elements of things we like from the past and personalise them without making art that is a pastiche or retro. We are also both are often labeled as being "psychedelic", but I think that word is overused and doesn't really mean what people think it does most of the time.
After two Tame Impala albums that centered on Kevin Parker's withdrawal from society, he has entered the stream of life on Currents. And he's lonelier than ever. In this sense, the album reimagines and expands Tame Impala's relationship to album rock-like Loveless or Kid A or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, it's the result of a supernaturally talented obsessive trying to perfect music while redefining their relationship to album-oriented rock. Currents is the result of many structural changes, most of which exchange maximalist, hallucinatory swirl for intricacy, clean lines. Like the group's previous two albums, Currents was written, recorded, performed, and produced by primary member Kevin Parker
