Seven Up is the third studio album by German krautrock band Ash Ra Tempel and their only album recorded in collaboration with American psychologist/drug advocate Timothy Leary. It was first released in 1973. Seven Up was mainly recorded at the Sinus Studio in Bern, Switzerland in August 1972. Some tracks, like the vocals on "Downtown" by Portia Nkomo and Michael Duwe, were recorded later at Studio Dieter Dierks near Cologne, Germany.

Ash Ra Tempel Timothy Leary-Seven Up German prog psych mini lp SHM-CD. Seven Up, Ash Ra Tempel/Timothy Leary, Audio CD, New, FREE & Fast Delivery. Last call for Ash Ra Tempel, in this form, during the 70s, is Seven Up, an album that rewards the creativity of the gesture with the quality and the sheer introspective madness that lies within the music and within its klautrock definitions, ones that seems rarely pushed to such extents in Ash Ra Tempel.

Recorded live at Sinus-Studio, Bern Mixed at Studio Dierks, Stommeln. This was the second issue, when the album was remarketed to sell to Cosmic Jokers circa 1974-75. Matrix, Runout: 0664 258 2 S 1 58 001 A ℗ 1973 320.

Even with the presence of special guest Timothy Leary, Seven Up sticks to its predecessor's penchant for bizarre, bluesy psychedelia on the first side while the second takes off into the deepest realms of space rock. Fans of Leary may be a bit surprised, since he's but one of the five voices sprinkled throughout the album and sounds more like a poor man's Eric Burdon than an acid visionary might on tracks like "Right Hand Lover," "Downtown," and "Power Drive. Side two consists of three drawn-out space jams that conclude with a rushing of air quite.

Seven Up is the third studio album by German krautrock band Ash Ra Tempel and their only album recorded in collaboration with American psychologist/drug advocate Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary was living in exile in Switzerland at the time, having escaped from prison in San Luis Obispo, California in September 1970.

This rather strange collaboration with drugs guru Timothy Leary has been dismissed by some as overly gimmicky and not up to usual Ash Ra Tempel standards. It does, in my humble opinion, still have much to offer though. Downtown opens the proceedings in funky, bluesy style and shows how this legendary band could effectively traverse genres at the drop of a hat.
