Swedish experimental extreme metallers MESHUGGAH have set "The Violent Sleep Of Reason" as the title of their new album, due on October 7 via Nuclear Blast. The CD's title and artwork were apparently revealed in the new issue of Revolver magazine, which features a full-page ad for the effort. MESHUGGAH guitarist Mårten Hagström told RockSverige. se last year that he doesn't usually check out any new music for inspiration when composing material for the band.

It is the first album of theirs recorded live. Drummer Tomas Haake explained it as an attempt to replicate their organic feel as a band and not to be too perfect. ObZen and Koloss are great albums but, to me, they are a little too perfect. It didn’t really capture what we sounded like honestl. ut where we recorded live you get to hear the push and pull, one person might be a little ahead and the other might be a little behind. If you kill that, you can kill the energy

Violent Sleep Of Reason. A systematically applied veil to heedless eyes Focus deflected, ignore This is not our war Bury the abject shame in the same bile as our ideals The potent lubricant to deceits grinding wheels. The menacing implications, the violent sleep of reason Betrayal we all help sustain Humanitarian treason This deadly inclination, this forfeiture of innocence The sacrifice of guiltless souls for our own deliverance.

Das Album ist nicht nur eine Sammlung von außergewöhnlichen Songs voller technischer Finessen. Es lebt, brodelt, gärt, peitscht, wütet, brüllt. In 2002, MESHUGGAH issued Nothing, which sold over 110,000 copies in the US and garnered the band an arena tour slot with TOOL, high validation from the biggest and most discerning progressive metal band on the planet at the turn of the decade. It’s actually based on a Goya painting that is called 'The Sleep Of Reason Brings Forth Monsters. A second highlight is strident opener and longest song on the album, 'Clockworks,' which is strafed by a typically super-human drum performance from Haake.
