Contemporary popular music includes a renowned heavy metal scene like other Nordic countries, as well as a number of prominent rock and pop bands, jazz musicians, hip hop performers and makers of dance music. There is also a Schlager scene with bandstand dancing where the local variety of tango is also popular. Another band that gained some reputation was Apollo that had the later great jazz-drummer Edward Vesala as a band member. The aforementioned Blues Section later developed into internationally acknowledged "superband" Wigwam, had an English singer Jim Pembroke, who also wrote the lyrics and many of the melodies/harmonies of their songs.

On the flipside of the LP Soulset drummer Edward Vesala, joined by Juhani Aaltonen and Paroni Paakkunainen, performs avant garde jazz in his own distinctive, experimental style that he had already been developing for some years. Vesala’s career finally started to bloom in the early 70s when he gained reputation in Europe within the free jazz circles. For authenticity’s sake we have preserved.
