from the album The Notorious Byrd Brothers. Back" for a place on The Notorious Byrd Brothers

Release Date: 1968 Tracklist. The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers. I decided to check out these guys based on recommendations from the Elephant 6 label forum. I’m quite glad I did as I would have never looked to the Byrds for psychedelic music of this nature after hearing Mr. Tambourine Man. Upon reading the booklet coming with the Columbia reissue you got a clear idea of the band at the time.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo is the sixth album by American rock band the Byrds and was released on August 30, 1968, on Columbia Records (see 1968 in music). Recorded with the addition of country rock pioneer Gram Parsons, it became the first major album widely recognised as country rock, and represented a stylistic move away from the psychedelic rock of the band's previous LP, The Notorious Byrd Brothers.

The recording sessions for the Byrds' fifth album, The Notorious Byrd Brothers, were conducted in the midst of internal turmoil that found them reduced to a duo by the time the record was completed. That wasn't evident from listening to the results, which showed the group continuing to expand the parameters of their eclecticism while retaining their hallmark guitar jangle and harmonies.

The best word to summarize The Notorious Byrd Brothers is transitional. The album’s ethereal, fresh-scrubbed sound owes much to producer Gary Usher, the auteur behind countless Sixties surf-pop records and co-author of Beach Boys classics like In My Room.

The tension and turmoil that reduced The Byrds to a trio following the album’s recording made for some awesome studio performances, best exemplified . The band’s musing on the Vietnam War birthed Draft Morning, a standout song trimmed in subtle psychedelia that has inspired many a cosmic twang-rock recreationist. Both Change Is Now and Old John Robertson laid out the country-rock stepping stones for Parsons to saunter in on later that year.

Redirected from Notorious Byrd Brothers). The Notorious Byrd Brothers is the fifth album by the American rock band the Byrds, and was released in January 1968, on Columbia Records. The album represents the pinnacle of the Byrds' late-60's musical experimentation, with the band blending together elements of psychedelia, folk rock, country, electronic music, baroque pop, and jazz.
