Best Earl Sweatshirt album, very meaningful and well written. Intelligent raps, unique production and perfect length. This album has helped me a lot this past year, anyone in a dark place or in need of BARS, ought to give this a spin. Somehow, Earl managed to make an album that is darker than his debut! And amazingly, it's just as good. features less guest appearances than Doris, which I like, since Earl certainly does not need help carrying a song on his own! One of the better sophmore albums in quite some time.
Born Thebe Kgositsile, Earl Sweatshirt is a Los Angeles-based rapper and member of the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) crew. Following in the footsteps of Eminem, Natas, and Esham, his languid style is a blend of highly personal alt-rap and morbid horrorcore. In 2010, he released his Earl mixtape to critical acclaim before mysteriously going on hiatus later that year. It was subsequently revealed that Sweatshirt had been sent to a Samoan boarding school by his mother during this period. The leak infuriated Sweatshirt, who took to social media to vent his anger.
This album is a much more personal and definitely more independent album by Earl. This album is full of dark and gritty lyrics that deal with Earl's relationship with his Mother, a breakup, Earl's depression and other dark themes. There is lo-fi and atmospheric production that borrows elements from soul, jazz and minimalistic music. This album is also quite shorter than 'Doris', with its running time just being under 30 minutes, aswell as 10 tracks, but this album is definitely worth a listen. This is an album best listened to at midnight, by yourself . IDLS:IDGO is one solid album from Earl Sweatshirt. Dark, simple and straightfoward. Although not everybody might be a fan of this direction when compared to Doris.
