An ad in an 1872 Owens Valley newspaper invited valley residents on a holiday lark-a Fourth of July steamship excursion across the blue, rolling waters of Owens Lake. They would leave from a wharf on the northern shore and churn 15 miles across the salt lake to a delightful picnic spot. Today, there are no ships on Owens Lake, and people don't hold many picnics along its shores. The saline lake, which once covered more than 100.

Malchor's Leap is the northwestern portion of the Ruins of Orr. It contains the temples of Lyssa and Dwayna, being littered with statues to the two gods imbued with magic. The name of the area refers to the story of Malchor, a sculptor who committed suicide by jumping off a cliff after Dwayna left for Arah. Multiple parts of this area have stacked upper and lower levels; this is particularly apparent around the elevated Cathedral of Eternal Radiance, which can make navigation confusing.

The first album from Dust is interesting on many levels. The rhythm section featured drummer Marc Bell, who would later join New York punk rockers Richard Hell & the Voidoids, while bassist Kenny Aaronson would sign on with labelmate Stories on the group's third album, as Ian Lloyd moved from bass/vocals to complete frontman. The songwriting team of producer Kenny Kerner and singer/guitarist Richie Wise would go on to produce the third Stories album, making this Dust debut and its follow-up an important piece of the Stories puzzle
