Mick Karn’s The Concrete Twin carries on from where his 2006 album, Three Part Species, left off: an engaging performance with dazzling musicianship and a commercial know-how that elevates it beyond your standard left-field art-rock. It squelches and lurches in all the right places and offers the lugubrious funk-hybrid that Karn has been purveying since 1982’s Titles. Learning how to sample himself, Karn embarked upon a journey that sounds a great deal more organic than some of his recent work. We know it’s not all about wishing for the past. The world has turned.
